Bishop Moore College is one of the Colleges affiliated to University of Kerala which is striving hard to attain the ultimate grades of excellence. ‘Campus- A venue for Environmental Enrichment’ is the idea that motivates the College community in its march to excellence. The Bhoomithrasena Scheme of the College also reflects this in their activities. The Bhoomithrasena Scheme of Bishop Moore College unit started in the year 2010. The unit organizes and participates in various environmental programmes. Bhoomithrasena as a club has been functioning in our college with the financial support of Directorate of Environmental and Climatic Change, Government of Kerala.

Activities

  • A bacterial inoculum was purchased to improve the breakdown of organic waste at the college’s waste segregation and compost plant. This step aims to accelerate composting, reduce waste volume, and support the college’s ongoing efforts toward sustainable waste management.
  • The valedictory function and prize distribution ceremony of the Bhoomithrasena Club were held in the Botany Department Seminar Hall. The programme started with the presentation of the report for this year’s activity by Dr. Prakash G Williams, FIC, Bhoomithrasena Club. The Principal of Bishop Moore College delivered the valedictory address and distributed prizes to students for their outstanding participation and contributions to various environmental activities conducted throughout the year. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Student Secretary, Ms. Rikku Elsa Cherian, who expressed gratitude to the management, staff, and students for their active involvement and support.
  • As part of Earth Hour 2025, students of the Bhoomithrasena Club and staff members of Bishop Moore College actively participated by switching off non-essential lights and electrical appliances at their homes for one hour. The initiative aimed to emphasize the importance of individual actions in combating climate change and promoting a sustainable future.
  • A bottle booth was installed on the college campus to encourage the collection and recycling of plastic bottles. This initiative aims to promote sustainable waste management practices among students and staff, fostering a cleaner and greener campus environment.
  • Students of the Bhoomithrasena Club carried out mulching in the campus garden to conserve water and improve soil health. The initiative aimed to reduce evaporation, suppress weeds, and enhance soil moisture retention. Wood chips used for mulching were procured from a nearby local carpenter, thereby recycling and reusing waste materials and preventing their burning, which could cause air pollution.
