The unit organizes and participates in various environmental programmes. Bhoomithrasena as a club has been functioning in our college with the financial support of Directorate of Environmental and Climatic Change, Government of Kerala.

Activities

  • The objective of the Syzygium campanulatum planting initiative on World Environment Day by students, the principal, and the college chaplain is to actively contribute to environmental conservation by enhancing local biodiversity and promoting sustainable practices. By engaging in this planting activity, the program aims to raise awareness about the importance of tree planting, foster a sense of environmental responsibility among the college community, and support efforts to improve ecological balance and combat climate change through practical, hands-on involvement. Garden area around the tree planting was also renovated and weeding was done in the same garden. The medicinal garden on campus was renovated to enhance plant diversity and improve accessibility. Additional medicinal species were introduced to support learning and conservation.
  • A bacterial inoculum was purchased to improve the breakdown of organic waste at the college’s waste segregation and compost plant. This step aims to accelerate composting, reduce waste volume, and support the college’s ongoing efforts toward sustainable waste management.
  • On January 27, 2025, the Bhoomithrasena Club of Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara, conducted a training session on paper bag making to promote eco-friendly alternatives to plastic bags. Participants learned simple and practical techniques to create durable paper bags from recycled materials.

The Principal of Bishop Moore College delivered the valedictory address and distributed prizes to students for their outstanding participation and contributions to various environmental activities conducted throughout the year. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Student Secretary, Ms. Rikku Elsa Cherian, who expressed gratitude to the management, staff, and students for their active involvement and support.
