About Maharaja's College Maharaja's College, pread over a 25-acre campus, stands right in the heart of the happening city of Kochi, with easy accessibility by road, rail, air, metro rail and waterways. The college campus is refreshingly lush and verdant because of the shady trees and their thick foliage and fresh water ponds that lend a sylvan ambience to the premises. In 2014-15, the college was elevated to the status of an autonomous college. It is the first and the only government autonomous college in Kerala. College offers courses in subject areas ranging from arts, science, humanities, and physical education. It offers 20 undergraduate programs. 22 Post Graduate Programs, and an Integrated Postgraduate Programme in Archaeology and Material Cultural Studies. The college has earned recognition as a Centre of Excellence in the state from the Government of Kerala owing to its rich tradition and enviable triumphs in all areas. The science departments of the college were provided special assistance under the FIST (Fund for improvement of S&T Infrastructure) program of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in 2010. University Grants Commission (UGC). There are currently 17 departments offering doctoral research leading to Ph.D. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) reaccredited the college with an A grade in 2021.

Activities

  •  To identify and document the tree diversity in Maharaja’s College Campus and its nearby avenues.  To estimate the Above Ground Biomass and Below Ground Biomass of tree species for measuring the total biomass of trees.  To calculate the amount of carbon dioxide sequestered by each tree species.  To calculate the amount of carbon dioxide sequestered by the entire Campus and its nearby avenues.  To compare the carbon sequestration potential of both native and exotic species.
  • • To protect and create a healthy environment for the birds/animals • To get an opportunity to observe the wonders of nature • To take a little break from the hustle and bustle of daily life
  • To give a hands on training on Oyster mushroom cultivation
  • • To understand the biodiversity of wetland • To value and appreciate the beauty of wetland • To create awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people • To appreciate the need of conserving wetland
  • • To make understand the soil richness of Kerala • To focus attention on the importance of healthy soil • To advocate sustainable management of soil • To increase public awareness about the significance of soil in our lives
