Kochi has been a hub of commercial activity from time immemorial. With the spread of universal education and the founding of a bunch of high schools in and around Kochi, the need for a college, for pursuing higher studies, was keenly felt here. It was in these circumstances that the erstwhile Municipality of Kochi and the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kochi, jointly took the lead, sponsored “The Cochin Education Society” and started The Cochin College. Thus, a long cherished wish of the public of Kochi was realized. The Cochin College today stands as a symbol of the hopes and aspirations of the citizens of Kochi.
