Wetlands for our common future at Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam
As part of the Wetland Day celebrations, a special talk on the topic "Wetlands for Our Common Future" was organized on 03.02.2025. The talk was delivered by Dr. Sanilkumar, Assistant Professor and Head, SNM College, Maliyankara. The event was successfully coordinated by Bhoomithrasena, the Nature and Biodiversity Club. Dr. Sanilkumar highlighted the critical role of wetlands in maintaining ecological balance and supporting biodiversity. He elaborated on how wetlands act as natural water filters, prevent floods, and serve as habitats for a variety of flora and fauna. Emphasizing the need for conservation, he discussed sustainable measures to protect these vital ecosystems for future generations. The session was interactive, with students and participants actively engaging in discussions. Dr. Sanilkumar addressed several queries related to wetland degradation, restoration efforts, and government policies on wetland conservation.The talk served as a great awareness initiative, inspiring participants to contribute towards wetland conservation in their own capacities.
