MALAMPUZHA MCF : Auditing of Existing Waste Management Facilities

Malampuzha Grama Panchayat, located in Palakkad district, Kerala, has been proactive in implementing sustainable waste management practices. Aligned with the state's environmental initiatives, the panchayat has established Material Collection Facilities (MCFs) to manage non-biodegradable waste effectively.

Outcome: Bhoomitra Sena Club Volunteers of NSSCE and NSS Units 128 and 198 of conducted a survey on Waste Management in collaboration with Malampuzha Grama Panchayat and Bhoomitra Sena, an initiative launched by the Kerala State Government to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students. As part of the survey, the volunteers visited the Material Collection Facility

(MCF) unit in Malampuzha.

Highlights: The panchayat collaborates with the Haritha Karma Sena, a dedicated group responsible for door-to-door collection of non-biodegradable waste, ensuring community participation and efficient waste management. Through these initiatives, Malampuzha Grama Panchayat aims to promote environmental sustainability and maintain a clean and green community.The workers of the MCF unit explained the process and methods for managing waste. They also provided suggestions to the volunteers on improving the waste management process. At the end of the session, the volunteers conducted a survey

among the workers of the MCF unit. Through this interaction, the volunteers gained valuable knowledge about waste management processes, practical insights on improving practices, an understanding of the challenges faced by workers, and experience in conducting surveys.
