Environmental Lecture at St. Thomas College, Ranni
Bhoomitrasena club conducted an environmental lecture on 6-th November,2024. The programme included two technical sessions handled by T. R. Premkumar, Director, Moozhikkulam Shala and V. K. Sreedharan, Vanamithra Award winner and Secretary, Inspire India (NGO).
Dr. R. Aruna Devy, HOD, Department of Zoology delivered the welcome address. Dr. Sneha Elcy Jacob, Principal, St. Thomas College, Ranni gave the presidential address. After the inuguration, T. R. Premkumar gave a talk on 'Poojyam Bhakshya Dhooram'. He elaborated on the significance of local food products, importance of local producers and markets and also the impact of food on our health and life style. Various environmental problems were also discussed and the impact of individual contributions toward a better future were highlighted. This was followed by the second technical session handled by V. K. Sreedharan on 'Carbon Neutral'. The discussion was mainly centered on Carbon footprint and understanding how an individual or organization's actions contribute to the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere each year. The importance and applications of carbon footprint calculator to estimate a person's carbon footprint by analyzing their lifestyle and living conditions were also demonstrated.
The programme was concluded by a 'Climate Cafe' which represents a miniature form of Climate Change Conference, where people can discuss environmental issues, climate related concerns and their impact. Seeds and bio fertilizer packets were also distributed to the participants. Ms. Swetha C, Coordinator, Bhoomitrasena Club delivered the vote of thanks.
