Hands in the Soil: Student Participation in Rakthasali Rice Cultivation at EMEA College of Arts and Science, Kondotty

“Hands in the Soil” is an experiential learning initiative conducted in the fields near Puthur Pallikkal, aimed at engaging students in the traditional cultivation of Rakthasali rice, a rare heritage variety known for its medicinal and nutritional value. Students participate in all stages of the farming process—from land preparation and seed sowing to harvest—using eco-friendly, organic methods. The program not only introduces students to sustainable agriculture but also fosters a deeper appreciation for indigenous crops and environmental stewardship, while preserving a valuable part of Kerala’s agrarian heritage.
