Eco-Craft Workshop: Mastering Paper Pen and Bag Making at Carmel College (Autonomous), Mala
The Bhoomithrasena Club of Carmel College (Autonomous), Mala, in association with the Nature Club and the Institution's Innovation Council, organized an Eco-Craft Workshop on “Mastering Paper Pen and Bag Making” on 12th December 2024. The event was conducted at the Student’s Corner with the enthusiastic participation of students from various departments.
Objectives
- To create awareness about sustainable alternatives to plastic usage.
- To impart practical skills in eco-friendly crafts using recycled materials.
- To foster creativity and promote environmental responsibility among students.
The workshop aimed to promote a greener future by introducing students to simple and sustainable craft techniques. Participants were trained to create paper pens and eco-friendly bags using easily available materials. This hands-on session encouraged innovation while also emphasizing the importance of reducing plastic waste. The facilitators highlighted how such small steps can contribute to significant environmental impact when adopted widely.
The session was coordinated by student leaders Ms. Suhaila T. and Ms. Nithya P., and guided by staff coordinators Dr. Sinjumol Thomas, Dr. Archana K.A., Ms. Femy Mariya Jose, and Ms. Sariga C.D., under the leadership of Principal Dr. Sr. Rini Raphael.
Outcomes
- Students gained hands-on experience in making eco-friendly products.
- The workshop encouraged sustainable practices and reduced dependence on single-use plastics.
- Participants expressed motivation to adopt and spread eco-friendly habits in their communities.
The program was a great success, blending creativity with environmental consciousness, and leaving a lasting impact on students’ attitudes toward sustainability.
