Nature Education Camp at Aralam WLS at Govt. Arts & Science College, Calicut
On 17/01/2025, we, 28 members of the Bhoomithrasena Club along with two teachers, arrived at the campsite at 4 PM. After completing the registration, we took a bath in the nearby Cheenkannippuzha River. The cold water refreshed us and eased the tiredness from our journey. After enjoying tea and snacks, we attended a presentation about the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary. We lxxxxxearned that the sanctuary covers an area of only 55 square kilometers, yet it is rich in biodiversity. Following the presentation, we had dinner at 8 PM. Later, the students showcased their talents in a cultural program before heading to bed at 10 PM.
The next morning, we had coffee at 6 AM before heading to the Interpretation Centre. Sri Susanth, the Beat Forest Officer, gave an informative talk about the flora and fauna of the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary. It was a very fruitful session. Afterward, we had breakfast and set off for a trek through the forest. Sri Susanth accompanied us, pointing out various birds, plants, and butterflies along the way. We were amazed to see a large number of butterflies mud-puddling along the riverbank, and we also spotted a Malabar Giant Squirrel.
After returning from the trek, we went back to the river for another refreshing bath. We then had lunch followed by a feedback session. We departed from the sanctuary at 3:30 PM.
