WORLD WETLANDS DAY CELEBRATIONS at KKTM GOVT COLLEGE PULLUT


The BhoomitraSena Club, in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, Botany, and Nature Club of KKTM Government College, Pullut, Thrissur, organized a special event to commemorate World Wetlands Day 2025 on the 17th of February. The event aimed to create awareness about the significance of wetlands in sustaining biodiversity and ecosystem balance. The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Soumya K. C., Coordinator of Bhoomitra Sena Club. The event was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Bindu Sharmila T. K., Principal of KKTM Government College, who emphasized the crucial role of wetlands in environmental conservation and the necessity of community involvement in protecting such ecosystems.

The highlight of the event was a field training program titled "Mangroves in Focus: A Field Training Program on Their Ecological Importance." The session was conducted by Shri. Manoj Kumar I. B., a well-known environmentalist. He provided insights into the biodiversity of mangroves, their ecological significance, and the threats they face due to human activities. The participants engaged in discussions and practical observations of the Chappara Mangroves, making the session highly interactive and informative. During the event, a felicitation address was delivered by Shri. Prasad N. K., acknowledging the efforts of the organizers and emphasizing the importance of continued conservation efforts. The presence of the Heads of Department of Botany Dr. Krishnakumar K. A, along with coordinators Ms. Soumya K. C. (Bhoomitra Sena) and Ms. Raga R. (Nature Club), played a crucial role in making the program successful.

The celebration of World Wetlands Day at KKTM Government College was a remarkable initiative towards educating students about the conservation of wetlands, particularly mangroves. The event not only strengthened theoretical knowledge but also provided hands-on experience in understanding wetland ecosystems. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. Raga R., expressing gratitude to all participants, speakers, and organizers for their valuable contributions. All attendees took a pledge to actively participate in wetland conservation efforts, making the event a truly impactful experience.
