Waste management Awareness at Loyola College of Social Sciences

On 10th February 2025, BMC, Loyola College of Social Sciences, in collaboration with the Suchithwa Mission, successfully conducted a Waste Management Awareness Programme on campus. The initiative was organized with the primary objective of educating students and faculty members on sustainable waste practices such as waste segregation, recycling, and responsible disposal. The session featured interactive discussions, visual demonstrations, and participatory activities that emphasized the importance of individual and collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and eco-conscious environment. Experts from the Suchithwa Mission shared valuable insights into the current challenges in waste management and practical solutions that can be adopted both at the institutional and individual levels. The programme also highlighted the significance of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—as key principles for building a sustainable future.

The programme received an overwhelmingly positive response from participants and was appreciated for its relevance and engaging delivery. Students and faculty members expressed a renewed commitment to adopting environmentally sustainable behaviors, both within and outside the college premises. The initiative is expected to lead to visible improvements in campus waste segregation and disposal methods, thereby reducing the overall waste footprint of the institution. More importantly, it has sparked a larger conversation around environmental stewardship and has laid the groundwork for future green initiatives within the college. By fostering long-term behavioral change and creating a culture of sustainability, the programme marks a significant step toward building a cleaner, more responsible campus community.
