NATIONAL FARMER’S DAY CELEBRATION at St. Teresa's College (Autonomous), Ernakulam
The Department of Botany and Centre for Research at St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, in association with the Bhoomitrasena Club and Naatunanma Organic Farming Association, organized a celebration of National Farmer’s Day (Kisan Divas) on 10 December 10 2024 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM in the UG Botany Lab. The event featured guest speakers Sri. M. A. Baby, an organic farmer with over 50 years of experience, and Sri. Nelson K. K., an advocate and practitioner of organic farming methods. Both shared valuable insights into sustainable agricultural practices and Sri. Nelson conducted a training session on organic farming techniques afterwards.
As a gesture of appreciation, the Department presented the Award of Honour to Sri. M. A. Baby for his lifetime dedication to farming and the Award of Appreciation to Sri. Nelson K. K. for his contribution as a speaker and trainer. The program concluded with the distribution of vegetable saplings to participants and the planting of saplings on the college premises to symbolize the importance of sustainable agricultural practices.
The event was coordinated by the Department of Botany and Centre for Research, under the leadership of Ms I. K. Nishitha, Head of the Department, and faculty members Dr Tintu Jose Manicketh, Dr Arya P Mohan, Dr Chandini V. K., Dr Gayathri Sharma, Dr Sreehari S. Nair, and Ms Rishika P. S. The event became a success with the help of the student coordinators Ms Suhana Kabeer (Association Secretary), Ms Arathi Rajan, and Ms Indraja S. Kumar.
The program was held under the guidance of the college’s patrons, Rev. Sr. Nilima CSST (Provincial Superior and Manager), Rev. Sr. Emeline CSST (Director), Rev. Sr. Dr Vinitha CSST (Former Manager), and Prof. Dr Alphonsa Vijaya Joseph (Principal). The event was a meaningful effort to raise awareness about the importance of organic farming and honour the invaluable contributions of farmers to society.
