FLOWER MAKING CLASS IN NSS CAMP
As part of this year’s NSS camp, RSM SNDP Yogam Arts & Science College, in collaboration with the Bhoomithrasena Club and Nature Club, organized a training session on flower making using waste materials. The initiative aimed to promote creativity, sustainability, and environmental awareness among students, encouraging them to explore artistic recycling techniques.
Hands-on Training with Eco-Friendly Materials
The workshop was held at Government Higher Secondary School, Kokkallur, near the college. Under the guidance of NSS Program Officers Dr. Swetha S and Dr. Namitha R, along with Bhoomithrasena Club Coordinator Dr. Mini Abraham, students learned the art of crafting flowers from discarded materials such as plastic covers, tissue paper, waste fabric, palm leaves, dry banana leaves, and jute sacks.
The hands-on training session not only enhanced students' creativity but also reinforced the importance of waste management and resource conservation. The vibrant flowers created by the participants were later used to decorate the camp venue and gifted to dignitaries, adding an eco-friendly charm to the event.
Encouraging Innovation and Sustainable Thinking
Throughout the session, students were encouraged to experiment with new designs, textures, and colors, leading to unique floral arrangements. The training became a platform for self-expression and innovation, inspiring many to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in sustainable crafts.
To further emphasize the importance of environmental conservation, an interactive discussion was held on reducing waste through creative reuse. Participants shared their ideas on how such eco-friendly initiatives can be implemented in schools, homes, and communities.
Impact and Future Initiatives
The activity was widely appreciated by students, teachers, and guests, with many expressing keen interest in conducting similar workshops in the future. The success of the session has motivated the Bhoomithrasena Club and NSS unit to plan more sustainability-driven projects, such as paper bag making, eco-friendly decorations, and upcycling workshops.
This engaging and meaningful experience not only enriched the camp with creativity and awareness but also instilled a sense of responsibility in students toward environmental conservation. The training session proved that small steps in recycling can make a big difference, fostering a greener and more sustainable future.
