NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION DAY: FIELD VISIT TO RENEWABLE ENERGY CENTRE MITHRADHAM at Kuriakose Gregorios College
Bhoomitrasena Club and NSS, on December 19th 2023 arranged a field visit to Renewable energy centre, Mithradham in the Ernakulam district. The Teachers, Ms. Nishitha P. Mathew, Dr. Ratheesh R., and Ms. Libi Thampi headed the group. 20 students participated in this field trip. The aim of visiting the renewable center is • to gain insight into sustainable energy solutions and practices, • to foster understanding and awareness of renewable technologies and their impact on the environment. Mithradam is the first fully renewable energy powered educational institution in India, dedicated solely for the promotion of environment centric practices and renewable energy. Guided by knowledgeable staff members, we embarked on a comprehensive tour of facilities. We became acquainted with several kinds of solar panels, wind turbine and solar dryers and biomass conversion, also we had the opportunity to closely observe the solar panels. After we departed from Mithradham, we went to Iringolekaavu. Iringolekaavu is a Sacred grove in Ernakulam district, which is rich in biodiversity. Sacred groves are a method of in-situ conservation of biodiversity.
