Validating People’s Science at All Saints' College, Thiruvananthapuram


The hands-on workshop on Research Methodology titled “Validating People’s Science was conducted by the Bhoomithra Sena Club of All Saints’ College in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 31.07.2023 to make the members of the club aware of the need of statistically validate any research on the environment. The workshop provided the members with a basic idea of the application of principles of statistics to data collected from the environment such as biodiversity estimation, environmental quality analysis, sampling from the environment etc. The invited speaker was Dr. Sumi A R, Assistant Professor (on contract) of Statistics, Department of Statistics, University of Kerala, Kariavattom Campus.

Dr. Ayona Jayadev, the faculty-in-charge and the convenor of the program welcomed the gathering and introduced the speaker to the members.

The interactive session was lively and attended by the members of the club asked several doubts, and shared their opinions and ideas on how the studies related to the environment can be validated formally. The expert explained the gist of the experiments in detail and also gave hands-on training on some simple statistical techniques.

The program was attended by 40 club members and turned out to be beneficial to the club members. The program which started at 10.00 am was concluded at 3.00 pm.
