PUTHUNAMPU- Observation of World Forestry Day ORGANIC VEGETABLE FARMING at KURIAKOSE ELIAS COLLEGE,MANNANAM
In connection with the observation of World Forestry Day, the members of Bhoomithrasena club initiated Organic cultivation of vegetables with the aim of combining tradition, innovation and science for promoting agro- ecosystem health and holistic wellbeing of human life. The first phase of the program commenced from 29th February 2024 with aim of producing organic vegetables by June 2024.50 grow bags were filled with potting mixture prepared using organic substrates and manures like – cow dung, neem cake, groundnut cake, cocopeat, bone meal and vermi-compost for ensuring the supply of all the essential nutrients for the potted vegetable saplings. Saplings of different vegetables were planted. The student members of Bhoomithrasena watered the plants and monitored the growth every day. Pest and insect attacks and different plant diseases were treated using biopesticides like neem oil and garlic emulsion. Care was taken to adhere on to organic and sustainable practices at each stage of plant growth.
