Field Trip to College of Agriculture, Vellayani at All Saints' College, Thiruvananthapuram
The field visit was organized jointly by the Bhoomitra Sena Club of All Saints’ College along with the Planeteers Club of the Department of Environmental Sciences. The target groups included the club members and the second and fourth-semester MSc Environmental Sciences students. The group assembled at the Department of Agricultural Extension at 9.30 am. Dr. Allen Thomas, Professor and Head of the Department of Agriculture Extension, coordinated the visit and field demonstration there. The site for the field study was selected based on the availability of lab facilities, field activities, collection of various crops and trees, and farm activities.
Initially, the students were taken on a virtual tour of the College of Agriculture campus by Dr. Sangeetha K G. She also discussed the college's various courses. After that, Dr. Allen Thomas arranged student visits to the Department of Agricultural Extension, Pesticide Testing Laboratory, Instrumentation Facility, Crop Museum, and Instructional Farm. After the lunch break, the team moved to Kochu Kovalam, an environmentally significant site. Dr. Allen explained the ecological significance of the site and the Vellayani Lake. This was a very refreshing experience, and the students gained the experience of having the research translated into society. The visit was over by 4.00 PM. The students thanked Dr. Allen Thomas.
