World Ocean Day 2k24 at Naipunnya School of Management, Cherthala
As part of world Oceans day on Jun 12th 2024 the nature club members decided to visit andhakaranazhi beach to do beach clean-up and sand art activity. Around 41 students and 2 faculty coordinators participated in various activities to observe the oceans day with the theme “Planet Ocean: Tides are changing.”
The day commenced with a beach clean-up session where nature club members collected litter and debris from the shoreline. Equipped with gloves, bags, and other necessary tools, the participants enthusiastically embarked on the beach cleaning campaign. They meticulously combed the shoreline, collecting litter such as plastic waste, cigarette butts, and other debris. The nature club members worked together, ensuring a thorough clean-up of the beach. The clean-up not only restored the natural beauty of the beach but also prevented harmful materials from entering the ocean ecosystem.
Following the clean-up, participants unleashed their creativity by crafting intricate sand art designs on the beach. Utilizing the natural canvas of sand, they depicted marine life, ocean conservation messages, and symbols of environmental harmony. Through their art, the participants conveyed messages of love and respect for the ocean, urging viewers to protect and preserve this precious natural resource.
After the clean-up activity, the collected waste was segregated into different categories by the participants. Plastic waste, glass, and other recyclables were separated from non-recyclable waste. The segregated waste was then handed over to members of the Harithakarma Sena, a local environmental organization specializing in waste management and recycling.
The clean-up effort resulted in the removal of a significant amount of waste, preventing it from polluting the ocean and endangering marine life. Participants gained first-hand experience of the consequences of marine pollution and the importance of individual and collective action in preserving the ocean. The event fostered a sense of community spirit and collaboration among participants, volunteers, and local residents, inspiring on-going efforts to keep the beach clean. The sand art creations served as visually captivating reminders of the beauty and fragility of the ocean, attracting attention and sparking conversations about environmental stewardship.
The beach clean-up and sand art activity organized by the Nature Club members at Andhakaranazhi Beach on World Ocean Day 2024 was a resounding success. Through their combined efforts, the club members not only contributed to the preservation of the marine ecosystem but also inspired others to join in the movement towards a cleaner and healthier ocean. The event served as a testament to the power of community action and creativity in effecting positive change for the planet.
