MCF Audit Initiative: Evaluating Waste Management Efficiency at ST. ANTONYS HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL POONJAR

As part of an environmental responsibility initiative, the Bhoomitrasena Club participated in the MCF Audit Initiative focused on evaluating the efficiency and infrastructure of Material Collection Facilities (MCF) in selected panchayats. The program was held under the direction of the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DoECC) and aligned with the broader goal of promoting effective waste management practices at the grassroots level.

During the visit, students and coordinators systematically inspected the MCFs to assess the availability of basic amenities, segregation procedures, storage areas, and equipment used for handling various types of waste. The audit also involved evaluating the flow of collected waste, especially how plastic and non-biodegradable materials were handled, stored, and disposed of. Observations were documented and discussed in teams, followed by detailed reporting of each facility's status and areas needing improvement.

This hands-on field audit enabled students to understand the functioning of local waste management systems and the real-time challenges faced by these facilities. In addition to the technical evaluation, participants interacted with Haritha Karma Sena members and MCF staff to gather practical insights about day-to-day operations and constraints.

The data collected and analyzed during the program was compiled into a final report, which was submitted to the concerned authorities for review and follow-up actions. The experience not only raised awareness among the students but also empowered them to actively contribute to creating more sustainable, eco-friendly communities by promoting better segregation, recycling, and waste management practices.
