World Oceans Day at Naipunnya School of Management, Cherthala

As part of world Oceans day on Jun 8th 2023 the nature club members decided to visit KUFOS campus as well as to clean Azheekal beach. Around 24 students and 2 faculty coordinators participated in various activities to observe the oceans day with the theme “The Planet Ocean's Changing Tide.”

The KUFOS Public Aquarium is renowned for its diverse marine life exhibits, while Azheekal Beach is a picturesque coastal area in Kerala, India. Both activities offered unique insights into marine conservation efforts and the importance of preserving our oceans. The KUFOS Public Aquarium is located within the premises of the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies in Kochi. The aquarium featured a wide range of exhibits, each showcasing different aquatic ecosystems and their inhabitants. The aquarium boasted a remarkable collection of marine species, including colourful tropical fish, majestic rays, delicate seahorses, and even sharks. Each exhibit provided detailed information about the species, their habitats, and conservation efforts.

Following the enriching experience at the KUFOS Public Aquarium, the nature club members engaged in a beach cleaning initiative at Azheekal, a picturesque coastal area in Kerala. The purpose of this activity was to actively contribute to environmental conservation and raise awareness about the harmful impacts of marine pollution.

Equipped with gloves, bags, and other necessary tools, the participants enthusiastically embarked on the beach cleaning campaign. They meticulously combed the shoreline, collecting litter such as plastic waste, cigarette butts, and other debris. The nature club members worked together, ensuring a thorough clean-up of the beach.

The visit to the KUFOS Public Aquarium and the beach cleaning initiative at Azheekal provided the nature club members with unforgettable experiences. The aquarium visit not only showcased the rich biodiversity of marine life but also emphasized the importance of research and conservation efforts. The beach cleaning initiative allowed the nature club members to actively contribute to preserving the coastal ecosystem while spreading awareness about marine pollution. Such activities instilled a sense of responsibility and inspired a collective commitment to protect our oceans and promote sustainable practices.

The club members also prepared a small awareness video on the Oceans day and uploaded it in the Rithu YouTube channel.
