Classroom campaign against Waste. at Panampilly Memorial College Chalakudy
Bhoomithrasena Club of Panampilly Memorial Government College, Chalakudy, organized a Classroom Campaign Against Waste on 10th September 2024. The campaign aimed to educate students about the consequences of improper waste disposal,to highlight the importance of proper waste segregation and management,to promote eco-friendly practices and reduce waste generation on campus.Through engaging interactions and visual aids, the campaign sought to instill sustainable habits and promote proper waste management on campus.
Around 10 volunteers from the Bhoomithrasena Club actively participated in the campaign. Volunteers visited each classroom to directly interact with students.They explained the threats posed by improper waste disposal, with a focus on plastic and food waste.
The campaign highlighted common improper behaviors on campus, such as:Throwing food waste in open areas, despite the availability of designated bins,Misusing bins by placing food waste in those meant for paper or plastic.These practices often led to stray dogs scavenging and scattering waste, worsening campus cleanliness.
Volunteers emphasized the importance of segregating waste into proper categories: paper, plastic, and food waste.They provided practical tips for minimizing waste and ensuring that waste bins are used correctly.
Posters with vibrant visuals and compelling slogans were displayed to capture students' attention and reinforce the message.
Students were urged to adopt sustainable habits and take responsibility for proper waste management to keep the campus eco-friendly and waste-free.
The following recommendations were put forwarded to the Principal
- Regular Awareness Drives: Conduct similar campaigns at regular intervals to reinforce waste management practices.
- Improved Bin Management: Ensure waste bins are clearly labeled, strategically placed, and regularly maintained.
- Stray Animal Management: Collaborate with local authorities to manage stray animals on campus.
- Student-Led Initiatives: Form student task forces to monitor and encourage proper waste disposal practices.
- Incentives: Introduce reward systems for classrooms or students who consistently follow proper waste management
The Classroom Campaign Against Waste, organized by the Bhoomithrasena Club, was a significant step toward fostering environmental responsibility among students. By addressing improper behaviors and promoting actionable solutions, the campaign laid the foundation for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable campus. Continued efforts and collective participation will help sustain these positive changes.
