Beach Cleanup Bash at Sahodaran Ayyappan Smaraka SNDP Yogam College
Organized by the Bhoomithrasena Club of Sahodaran Ayyappan Smaraka SNDP Yogam College, Konni, the Beach Cleanup Bash at Kollam Beach aimed to address the escalating issue of plastic pollution. Held on February 29, 2024, the event drew the participation of 49 individuals, including students and accompanying teachers.
The activities encompassed various aspects crucial for achieving the event's objectives. Firstly, participants delved into understanding the significance of seas and beaches by immersing themselves in the environment of Kollam Beach. This allowed for a deeper appreciation of the ecological importance of coastal areas.
Following this, the focus shifted to practical action with the collection of plastic waste from the beachside. Utilizing bags made from repurposed cloth banners crafted by Bhoomithrasena members, the participants diligently gathered plastic debris, contributing to the ongoing efforts of beach conservation.
The culmination of the event featured three vibrant flash mob performances staged by Bhoomithrasena teams. These performances not only entertained onlookers but also served as a powerful medium to raise awareness about the detrimental impact of plastic pollution on coastal ecosystems. Through music, dance, and engaging visuals, the message of environmental stewardship resonated with the audience.
The Organizing Committee, led by College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Kishor Kumar B S, ensured the smooth execution of the event. Prof. Simi M, as the IQAC Coordinator, played a vital role in overseeing the event's alignment with institutional objectives. Prof. Jijith V S, the Club Coordinator, provided invaluable guidance to the Bhoomithrasena Club members. Student Coordinator Mr. Sreejith S facilitated communication and coordination among participants, while accompanying teachers Ms. Jayakala S and Ms. Anitha Bhai offered their support and expertise throughout the event.
The Beach Cleanup Bash at Kollam Beach not only fostered environmental consciousness but also exemplified the collective commitment of Sahodaran Ayyappan Smaraka SNDP Yogam College towards sustainable practices.
