One-day workshop on "Plants Identification, Tree Naming, and GIS Mapping" at KURIAKOSE ELIAS COLLEGE,MANNANAM
The Bhoomithrasena Club of KE College, in collaboration with the Department of Botany, successfully organized a one-day workshop on "Plants Identification, Tree Naming, and GIS Mapping" on 24th October 2024. The workshop featured Mr. Sarath Babu N B, Nature Education Officer at the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences, Manarcad, as the resource person, who shared his expertise with the participants.
The workshop aimed to equip students with the skills necessary for identifying plants, naming trees, and using Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping techniques. Through a combination of theoretical sessions and practical exercises, students gained hands-on experience in plant identification, learning about the different characteristics, features, and classification systems used to identify various plant species.
The workshop also covered the importance of tree naming, highlighting the role of trees in maintaining ecological balance, supporting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change. Students learned about the different types of trees, their characteristics, and the significance of tree naming in conservation efforts.
In addition, the workshop introduced students to GIS mapping techniques, demonstrating how this technology can be used to create detailed maps of plant distributions, track changes in vegetation patterns, and analyze the impact of environmental factors on plant growth.
Throughout the workshop, Mr. Sarath Babu N B shared his extensive knowledge and experience in the field, providing students with valuable insights and practical tips. The workshop concluded with a session on the applications of plant identification, tree naming, and GIS mapping in real-world scenarios, such as conservation, research, and sustainable development.
