Activities
- To evaluate the current waste management system at Carmel College and identify areas for improvement in segregation, recycling, and disposal practices.
To increase awareness among students and staff about the importance of proper waste segregation, recycling, and environmental responsibility.
To develop actionable recommendations that support the "Waste-Free New Kerala" initiative through systematic improvements and sustainable practices on campus.
- O document and identify the existing tree and plant species across the college campus, establishing a baseline for biodiversity and ecological monitoring.
To promote awareness and education among students and faculty about native and introduced plant species, their ecological roles, and conservation needs.
To support sustainable campus management by providing scientific data that can inform future planning, planting, and maintenance strategies.
- To assess the effectiveness of waste segregation and management practices at the Poyya Material Collection Facility (MCF) as part of the “Malinyamuktham Nava Keralam” (Waste-Free New Kerala) initiative.
To provide students and participants with practical exposure to real-world waste management systems and enhance their understanding of sustainable environmental practices.
To identify challenges and suggest improvements for better waste handling, record keeping, and infrastructure at the MCF through systematic auditing.
- 1. To create awareness about sustainable alternatives to plastic usage.
2. To impart practical skills in eco-friendly crafts using recycled materials.
3. To foster creativity and promote environmental responsibility among students.
- • To expand the plant collection within the botanical garden with diverse species.
• To implement proper planting and nurturing techniques for optimal plant growth and health.
• To scientifically document the plant collection, including scientific and common names.
• To create educational resources and signage for visitors to learn about the plants.
• To promote awareness about the importance of plant conservation and biodiversity.
