Kandal Padanayathra as the part of World Water Day Celebaration at Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University
World Water Day was celebrated by Bhoomithrasena Club on 22nd March 2022. A study tour named Kandalpadanayathra was conducted to Pulluni Mangrove forest area in Mangalam panchayath, Malappuram. 5 teachers and 44 students participated. Mrs. Jayashree P., K. T. B. M. U. P.S. Teacher explained the various species of mangroves, their characteristics, and their environmental services. Teacher explained the characteristics of the mangroves' habitat, how they adapt to the conditions and how they reproduce.The students were able to get acquainted with the following species of mangroves and their habitat.
· Pranthan Kandal (Rhizophora mucronata)
· Valli Kandal (Rhizophora apiculata)
· Chulli Kandal (Acanthus ilicifolius L.)
· Swarna Kanadal (Bruguira sexangula)
· Uppatti Kandal (Avicennia marina)
